Adalaj
Vav : The stepwell is a masterpiece in water architecture. It is situated
17 kms north of Ahmedanad. The stepwell at the village of Adalaj is another
fine example of this magnificient architecture form. Adalaj Vav is richly
carved, every pillar and wall surface is covered with leaves and flowers,
birds, and fishes and friezes of ornamental designs. The five storeyed
Octagonal shaft wonderful sculptures of a king seacted on a stool beneath
a parasol with two bearer gods, goddesses, dancing maidens, musicians,
birds,animal, leaves one spellbound. An ideal retreat from the scorching
heat in summer.
